SCIENCE DRIVEN AND PROJECT FOCUSED
Our foundation is “Science Driven and Project Focused”. This means that not only do our activities have to pass the scrutiny of a host of wildlife biologists, but the projects must also be results focused so they can make a meaningful real difference for our birds. We welcome all volunteers who may want to assist.
Sharp-tails Plus is active in managing various projects that benefit the Manitoba Sharp-tailed Grouse.
Project #1 Habitat Enhancement: This project is fully operational and being taken advantage of by many conservation driven landowners who want to make their property more Sharp-tailed Grouse friendly. In 2022, Sharptails Plus received the support from the Manitoba Fish and Wildlife Enhancement Fund to complete a vegetation control project on lek sites on Wildlife Management Areas in the Manitoba Interlake Region.
Project #2 Enhance Public Awareness: This is an ongoing work in progress using several approaches to help make the public more aware of our Sharp-tailed Grouse. Our Foundation understands the importance of enhancing the public awareness of our precious grouse. Our volunteers are active in giving presentations to conferences and group meetings. We welcome opportunities to share information on our birds.
